4-H

The 4-H logo is a green four leaf clover, with a white, uppercase H on each leaf. The H's stand for head, heart, hands and health. The goals are to develop youth into well rounded adults, through interaction with adult leaders and other youth, and involvement in projects that teach leadership and other skills.

The program consists of club activity and school enrichment projects. Most of the 4-H club members belong to groups, but a few individually, with their adult leader. There are over 160 members in Kearney County. Green 4-H Clover

Individual Projects

4-H members do projects in the areas of citizenship, photography, clothing, art, foods & nutrition, raising animals of all kinds, rocketry, and many others. There are over 100 projects are available. Reference materials are available at the Extension office.

County Fair

Many youth take part in the Kearney County Fair each year. They enter items that they have made, or animals that they have cared for. They receive the satisfaction of displaying the fruits of their labors, and receiving prize ribbons.

Enrollment

Youth may enroll at the Kearney County Extension Office.

4-H: For the fun of it!

4-H is about growing and learning, but it's also about having fun. Let's face it, many of Nebraska's 105,000 4-Hers and 17,500 4-H volunteers wouldn't be in it if there wasn't some fun involved.

Using "fun" and "learning" to describe the same situation is hard for some people to comprehend. But 4-H proves this to be possible.

4-H empowers youth to do things they've never done before in a creative and confident way. It often amazes parents as well as the 4-Hers themselves. Their accomplishments and successes lead to more positive results, all of which benefit individuals, families, communities, - and our whole society.

4-H is successful because it teaches youth to analyze information, make decisions, communicate effectively, prepare for careers, serve their communities and plan for healthy lifestyles - all while they're having fun.

Go ahead, get involved in 4-H - and have some fun!
